Friday, February, 24th, 2006. Scottish Sea Kayaking.
Yesterday I received a message from Douglas Wilcox. I already mentioned Douglas in a post on his review of the new Valley Nordkapp LV. He has been as kind as to offer me to send a .pdf document with the full review which will be published in the April issue of the UK Paddles magazine.
I already knew of Douglas from his reviews and contributions to the Uk Rivers Guide Book, a site run by Mark Rainsley. Now I have learnt of the Scottish Sea Kayaking Photo Gallery where Douglas uploads his shots. A cove of treasures. The results are spectacular. With an inner balance that would merit a military-grade gyroscope, he manages to capture the fine bows raising over the surging crests in stirred seas and the beauty of the low tides on forlorn Scottish shores.
Overall, the images convey the sheer joy and the pleasure of the sport.
My advice is that each gallery should be viewed sipping either a good single malt or a pint of Guinness, depending on your skill level. Then, linger over the desktop calendar for 2006. Allow yourself to dream on being there.
I should rise and go and live it.
Scotland, a beautiful land of exciting tidal problems.
